  Professor Xu-Ming XIE graduated with B. Eng from Shinshu University, Japan in 1985. He received his M.Scopen in new window. and Ph.D. in Dept. of Organic and Polymeric Materials, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan in 1987 and 1990, respectively. From 1990 to 1992, he worked as a research scientist at Kawasaki Plastics Laboratory, Showa Denko, Ltd. (Japan). He has worked at Tsinghua University since 1992, and has been a full professor since 1999. He is interested in areas such as 1) Modification and assembly of nanomaterials and their nanocomposites 2) Super tough and highly stretchable hydrogels 3) Structure control and properties of multiphase polymer systems and 4) Polymer grafting and modification 5) Confined crystallization and phase separation of polymer systems. He awarded JSPS Visiting Professor Fellowship in 1999 and Georgy. T. Piercy Distinguished Visiting Professor award from Dept. of Chemical Engineering & Materials, University of Minnesota (USA) in 2002. He was also invited as a visiting professor in Chuo University, Japan in 2005. In 2007 He obtained the first “Feng Xinde Polymer Prize” from ELSEVIER. He has published more than 200 papers, with a H-index of 41 (Google Scholar). He also has more than 20 Chinese, European and/or US patents which have been approved or disclosed. He is editorial board member of “Chinese Chemical Letters”, “Chinese Journal of Polymer Science”, “Journal of Functional Polymers” , “Polymer Materials and Engineering” and “China Plastics”.
